Scam Check ("the App") is a consumer safety tool designed to help you quickly identify suspicious messages, emails, and phone calls. Your privacy is central to how this app works. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, how we handle it, and the choices you have.

By using the App, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Handle

2.1 Content You Paste or Type (Scam Check Input)

When you submit a message, email, or phone call description for analysis, that text is sent to our AI analysis providers (Google Gemini and Groq) over a secure, encrypted connection for the sole purpose of generating a scam risk assessment. We do not:

Store your raw message text on any server after analysis is complete (it exists only in memory for the duration of the check).
Allow our AI providers to use your input text to train their AI models.
Read your SMS inbox, email inbox, contact list, or call logs.
Share your input text with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing.

2.2 Local Device Data

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to external servers:

Your scam check history (verdict + summary, not the full input text)
Your preferences: selected country, theme (light/dark/system), font size

You can delete your local check history at any time within the App.

2.3 Analytics (Anonymous Usage Data)

We use Firebase Analytics (by Google) to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how the app is used. This helps us improve the app. Examples of what is collected:

Which features are used (e.g., "check submitted," "result shared")
General scam category labels (e.g., "phishing," "robocall") — never the raw text
Crash reports and performance metrics
Device type and OS version (anonymized)

Firebase Analytics does not receive your name, email, phone number, or any text you paste into the app.

2.4 Advertisements

The App is free to use. To keep it free, we display banner and interstitial ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device advertising identifier to show relevant ads. You can reset or opt out of personalized ads in your Android device settings under Google → Ads.

3. Data Security

All data sent from the App to our analysis service is transmitted using industry-standard TLS (SSL) encryption. We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal identity information to use the App.

Your local history and settings data are stored in a standard Android Room database on your device, protected by your device operating system security.

4. Target Audience and Children's Privacy

Scam Check is designed for adults (particularly mid-to-older age users) to help them identify scams. The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take prompt steps to address it.

5. Data Retention

Input text is not stored after analysis is complete.
Local history stays on your device until you delete it manually via "Clear All History" within the App.
Analytics data is retained by Firebase according to Google standard retention policies (typically 2 months for aggregate event data, 14 months for user-level signals). You can request Firebase to delete your analytics data by contacting us.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your data, including:

Access: Request a description of what data we hold related to you.
Deletion: Request deletion of any data associated with your device.
Opt-Out of Personalized Ads: Adjust your Android device ad settings at any time.
GDPR (EU/UK residents): You have the right to access, correct, restrict, object to, and delete personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes. For significant changes, we will display a notice within the App.

9. Governing Jurisdiction

This Privacy Policy and your use of the App are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising from this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
